Unfortunaly for the Nation a Walker dog did win the Derby today. But we were still represented well. And we are looking for the win tomorrow!!!

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

anyone who complains about a lack of judges and has never judged a three day hunt, step up. it is time to start solving the problem and stop complaining about it. the mo state july didn't even have the money to pay for the judges gas so we need volunteers. either judge or donate to a judges fund but don't just sit around and b--ch! the six judges did an awesome job with hounds scoring around 300 or more every day.

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

the july nationals have 24 confirmed judges. I just hope we can afford to pay their expenses with the four dollar gas! at lincoln county we had 21 confirmed judges and ended up with 10. we still lost
$1100 just paying for the gas from the ten that showed. to get 20 judges we would have to get 30 confirmations and hope that ten would not show so that we would not lose $3300 it is really hard to get enough and not overextend the bank account.

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

Toughest job on the field trial committee is getting judges. Twenty confirm and ten show up. Getting a bad one is worse than no judge at all.
Most hunters who gripe the most about judges are one who never judge themselves.
P.S. -- Duff said he'd help judge your next hunt if you get him a good Missouri jumping mule.

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

THAT IS RIGHT IT IS HARD TO GET JUDGES THE WAY THINGS ARE TODAY...SO RATHER THAN CRY ABOUT IT DO SOMETHING MOST USUALLY THE ONE THAT CRIES THE LOUDEST IS THE ONE THAT DOES NOTHING TO HELP... IN OTHER WORDS IF YOU DONT WANT TO HELP THEN SHUT THE HELL UP...NOW THAT I HAVE GOT THAT OFF MY CHEST WE CAN START HAVING FUN AGAIN..THE WALKERS OUT DONE US THIS YEAR BUT THEY MADE A MISTAKE THEY LEFT ENOUGH TO FIGHT ON AND HAVE A LITTLE FUN NEXT YEAR...ANYONE THAT WANTS TO HAVE FUN COME OUT AND PLAY..AND THE BAWL BAGS NEED TO STAY HOME..NOW AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THE WALKER MEN THERE CHEATED THEY BROUGHT BETTER HOUNDS THAN I DID AND I BROUGHT MY BEST..CONGRADULATIONS TO EVERYONE THAT PLACED..I LOOK FORWARD TO IT NEXT YEAR...OH BY THE WAY SIX HOUNDS CAME TO THE GATE THE THIRD DAY 3 WALKERS AND 3 JULYS....

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

i'm not saying the ones we had didn't work their tail off butt when you have big blocks of timber with no judges in it...it's a problem
i only take in a few 2 and 3 days all year cause i can't afford to go to alot of them....over 5 hours driving one way...meals....time off...polly the same reasons as the lack of judges.....

only answer i can see is raise entry fee....5 or ten dollars a dog would make a heck of a difference...i know going up is going to hurt but everybody has cut back on hounds and some of their running cause of high gas prices and dogfeed.......it takes alot of time and money to get one ready for a hunt....you at least want them seen

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

chris,
lets say we raise the entry ten dollars. we had 101 dogs this year. with the ten dollar increase you lose about 20 to 30 dogs. with 70 dogs entered you have $3150. $1750 goes as pen fee. that leaves $1400. we payed around $1000 (which is not enough)for the winners this year that leaves $400 to hire about 14 judges. you and thirteen of your buddies are invited to come and judge the pack hunt at the big valley. alan kearbey has said that he needed help getting judges and I am sure that $400 would not be too much to spend for 14 judges. thanks in advance.

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

I don't know if pairing up would work. I see alot of hunters who are collar blind. after all, if these guys were capable of judging hounds.....do you think they would still be running walkers????
mitch, you seem to be illuding to a man by the name of allen heyer???? like whitey said, I've never heard of him but if he really did exist, it makes my point..... do we really want to take a chance on someone like that judging our hounds???

Re: Derby Results, MO St. July

I know Allen Heyer. Know him pretty good in fact. Roll Model kind of a man. He'll have a good hound no matter what breed it is. I wouldn't say he'd be one of the color blind judges. A real straight shooter he'd be.

He used to have a cousin or something like that who followed him around all the time trying to get his picture taken. That cousin was an ugly sort of feller. Always blowing about some old red dog he had. Looked like he could have been about 128th Walker or so. Called him Ruttin Rover or something like that.

So now if Allen ever done ANYTHING wrong, it should probably be blamed on that cousin. So give him a break. A guy can't always pick his family, you know. I'm not complaining about his cousin either because he had a SMOKIN HOT WIFE.
