DUCOTE

I SEEN YOUR POST ABOUT A WOLF TRACK BEING 5 MINUTES OLD IF A HOUND WOULD BARK ON IT YOU WOULDNT HAVE IT... NOW I GOT A QUESTION FOR YA HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND OR HAVE YOU FORGOT WHAT IT TOOK TO JUMP A WOLF ON THE OUTSIDE???? NOW FOR WHAT YOU WANT THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE RIGHT...FOR MY USE I NEED ONE THAT CAN TRAIL ONE UP AND JUMP HIM BECAUSE ON THE OUTSIDE I DONT HAVE 150 PETS STANDING AROUND LOOKING OUT OF THE BRUSH AT ME.....SO BOTH TYPE HOUNDS HAVE GOT A USE... NOW IF I AM HUNTING ON THE OUTSIDE TRYING TO JUMP A COYOTE AND ONE RUNS PAST A 5 MINUTE OLD TRACK WITHOUT TURNING ON IT WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN TO IT ?????????

Re: DUCOTE

Hillbilly different country I guess, in this open country here if you have a hound that will bark five minutes behind you can go home Wolf is in next county. Now if he smells him and moves up on him and gets under him and when you hear him he is either fighting or running you have a chance. This country a red fox or a wolf on the outside you better be under him when you go to barking and if you make a loose you better never bark trying to get back under him. Grey fox different, just different country I guess, Coyotes here very seldom run in the woods they take their chances in the open and use distance to their advantage

Re: Re: DUCOTE

Ducoto
Are you saying your stock can not smell a 5 minute old track? that has not been covered yet?

Ya'lls coyotes must do different than ours if one slips across the road hear and nothing is running the coyote he or she hasnt gone far they walk around and are not in a hurry, the way you talk about 5 minutes it sounds like your coyotes in say Jena just sprint arund the pen even if they arent being run...I didnt see that when I was there I saw one or 2 slipping and not moving that fast....

Re: DUCOTE

Hillbilly when we were hunting hard on the outside we would have to put the strike dogs in one truck and the youg dogs in the other. Then we would go back and get the young dogs after we jumped because if you pulled up to a spot and dogs went to barking in the truck coyotes would be long gone. Like I said coyotes here run down the roads ,across fieds, pastures etc. tree lines maybe 1 to 2 miles apart here, we have no pines here all hard woods and coyotes never ran much in them. Lots of times could see dogs crossing big fieds further than you could hear them bark if the wind was a little out of your favor. Sometimes you turn loose right on a bunch and the fighting starts for a hour before you could make one run. Differnt country Hillbilly, fast and furious running though, but no five minutes in our running country is measured in miles

Re: DUCOTE

Crowe that is why it is hard for judges to be on the same page, some of us saw a totally differen't thing, but thats hunting, take care, but I was really talking about the outside here. And no I don't want mine barking on a 5 min. old track if it is a wolf. Rather him work it and get under him befor the wolf has any Idea or anyone else, just get under him and lets have a race. Red fox to, have had dogs trail and boot around on Red Fox sometimes half the night before they would finally jump him, but I am going to be honest with you had lots of bad dogs in my life, just don't put up with them as long as I used to. Take care Crowe

Re: DUCOTE

Ducote you just told on yourself right there. A real outside hunter will not stand for dogs barking in the truck. I'm not even claiming to be a real hunter but I don't pull up with a box load of howlers. Young dogs learn by example(Good or Bad).

Ducote I'll buy you a steak if you ever get out this way and we'll have a good time cuttin the fool, but I'm not convinced you were ever a good outside hunter. Good guy and field trialer yes maybe...good hunter no.

Re: DUCOTE

Steve here you go again jumping to conclusions. We don't have very many yotes outside here yet, but I know there coming. I prefer to run fox... didn't say I never ran yotes. I've run yotes in the pen and have outrun dogs that were shipped in from out your way for lots of cash. I've had chance to run, watch, and judge alot of all different bloodlines in this country including some you sent out here. Maybe those hounds hit another gear when they get in open ground, but I just can't see where they have that much more speed when compared here.

Re: DUCOTE

No Hillbilly I told u I hunt in flat wide open country when we hunted on the outside, bring some of those Mtn. dogs here and if they bark 5 min. behind on a track I think you will understand, thats why I stated its where you hunt that makes the difference.

Re: DUCOTE

I want to play too!!!
Lenny, Steve, Whitey, if y'all can come to Samson, AL within the next month before we give up the pen, I will buy the steaks, take care of the pen fees, and provide you a bed to sleep in. Bring 4 of your best hounds and we will cast at daylight and run until the hounds give out. We will score them the whole time and break down the scores to see who wins on every hour after the 3rd hour. Steve, I expect you will out run us. Lenny, I expect you will will run us out. Whitey, you will win the howling contest but that is it. I bet I can get Richburg & Jackson to come back for a showdown. Mare Branch might want in on it too. I can take up to 10 kennels bringing 4 hounds per kennel. Do Y'all know any more that might want to get in on this?
I'm serious now, I got the central location. Pick the weekend and I will reserve us a Saturday to run.

Re: DUCOTE

All of y'all have big hunts at your back door already. It's time to come to a new location. All it will cost you is the gas and the weekend. I know each of you has $400 stuck back that you can blow on a once in a lifetime Running Hound Showcase.

Re: DUCOTE

Stotesberry I know of 3 Red Fox dens 300 yds from my dog pens. Could run a couple of dogs ever once in awile with no trouble, but if they jump a Coyote they will go where there is trouble. You just can't imagine the Red Fox and Coyotes in a 5 mile radius here

Re: DUCOTE

Steve I was just rereading the post above and your statment "five minutes in our running country is measured in miles" That right there is the very reason I have never liked the ten minute rule for scoring hounds.

Gary, it don't look like they are interested. I thought it would be fun. How often are they going to get a deal like I offered? Steve must be scared to have to run against Doc.

I don't think that is the problem because he's gonna have to do that one day anyway. It might be that his truck wont stop in Alabama. It will go to the east coast but the brakes dont work in between.
