ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

I was reading about this product for use in hounds with joint problems....ie; arthritis, swelling etc.
Article stated that it is much safer than products such as Rimyadyl or Derrmaxx. Kind of expensive but great results!!
Anyone ever used it or had your vet use it on any of your hounds??
Am thinking about using it on an older hound that favors its shoulder and leg!
Thanks for your input!~

Re: ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

I used it on two different dogs about 5 yrs ago. Let the vet put them through the whole thing, took several weeks, and had NO good results. Both of these dogs were pretty bad though. Both had shoulders that were bad. I'm not trying to talk you out of trying, my dogs may have had more serious problems than yours, and I think it might help if you just want to relieve some pain and give them some relief but I seriously doubt that it will repair a hound enough to run all night long again. Maybe it will and I hope it works for you if you decide to try it.

Re: ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

We have used it twice and right now currently using it, I used it on the T-Roy Liquor hound when he was young and he came back and won 2 hunts after that,Right now I am using it on a 7 month old female and she is really responding great but not ready to call her cured yet. I give it 1 cc per week {did it every Saturday not that it matters] and didn't run him for 2 months and brought him back slow. I am in the 3rd week on the pup and she is showing remarable improvement in the pen ,just checked her this morning and no sign of limping and she limped noticeably in the pen. I think its a great product and I didn't think the price was to stiff maybe you need to shop a little

Re: THANKS DEREK.....ANOTHER QUESTION

Thanks Derek for your reply.Could you help me with a source to secure some? I do want to try it on this and another hound. First is older and just pleasure run him from time to time. Second is a young female with a swollen left ankle.....she bounces around the kennel on all four feet...then when she walks....she picks it up. ankle is swollen, and has been for about 4 weeks now!!
How long have you kept them on it and do you use it after they have started back to running again?
I really appreciate your help!!

Re: ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

I understand they use this for race horses with some success, but myself and two other hunters used it on 5 hounds and they may have gotten better, I don't really know, but none of them totally recovered and were never able to really compete again. We used it around here so much and spent so much money on it that we all laughed and talked about renaming our kennels to adequan kennels. Butttttt, evidently it has worked for some because its still around and people are still using it. Good Luck.

Re: ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

Hunters, in our home country, we have some good but very high priced veterinarians. What is the cost of Adequan per bottle or per cc? Is it a prescription drug? I am sure that I could purchase this product cheaper somewhere else than here locally.

Re: ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

I am in the process of trying to get another bottle. It has to come through a presription from a vet. I will let you know the price and availability if I can get extra. Will be the middle of next week , Tuesday at the earliest that I will know anything.

Re: ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

HEY JABBA JAW I HAVE USED IT ON SEVERAL YOUNG HOUNDS THAT HAVE HURT THEMSELVES PERTY BAD (SHOULDERS) THE SECRET IS TO LAY THEM UP FOR THE FIRST FOUR WEEKS AND THAT FITH AND SIXTH WEEK GO RUN THEM REAL SHORT HOURS (ABOUT 2) TO TEST THE SHOULDER. I THEN RAN MINE LIKE ALWAYS AFTER THAT WITH NO PROBLEM . I TRY NOT TO RUN MORE THAN FIVE HRS IF POSSIBLE. GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS.GOD BLESS AND HAPPY HUTNING

Re: ADEQUAN....ANYONE EVER USED IT??

like dupre and spanky said, after treatment of any of the shoulder remedies, the secret is to ease them back into shape slowly.i know some that take hurt dog out alone first time after treatment.on most treatments, the muscles deteriate some,so you need to build them up slowly again for proper suppoet of ligaments, tendons, etc.you don't see pro football players report for first day of fall practice go full speed in all gear for 4 quarters. i've gottten dogs over shoulder problems with adequan,msm-glucosomine,and dex-tylon 200 treatments.all 3 types worked.over done it first time out with a couple,so had to repeat treatment to get some over it.smaller pen the better so to limit runtime and use weedeater to help.
