The Band of Others Forum

(Wearing of togas is not mandatory.  Some concept of decorum, and good manners is requested.)

We don't intend to be a hardcase on the issue of censorship.  We encourage debate, and understand that it will sometimes become heated.  I do not want to lay down rules concerning what will be, and what will not be tolerated.  If I find something offensive, my inclination is to delete the thread rather than ban the individual.  However:  Gossip, and repeated rudeness, will not be tolerated.  In general this forum is open to any subject people wish to discuss.  Remember that this is primarily a military forum.  Any person, or persons, who try to "hijack" it for their own purposes will be banned.

Message:   I sometimes wonder if the military could still function if the "tech" went down. GPS is nice, but I hope people still know how to use a map & compass. The Global Positioning Satellites will be one of the first targets, along with communications, by anyone with an anti-satellite capability. China has demonstrated that it has such a capability. They, probably, are not the only ones.
What happens if the fire control computer goes down in a tank, or one of our aircraft. Does the TC, or pilot, still have the capability to fire manually? Or does he wait until his call to "tech support" goes through?
