The Band of Others Forum

(Wearing of togas is not mandatory.  Some concept of decorum, and good manners is requested.)

We don't intend to be a hardcase on the issue of censorship.  We encourage debate, and understand that it will sometimes become heated.  I do not want to lay down rules concerning what will be, and what will not be tolerated.  If I find something offensive, my inclination is to delete the thread rather than ban the individual.  However:  Gossip, and repeated rudeness, will not be tolerated.  In general this forum is open to any subject people wish to discuss.  Remember that this is primarily a military forum.  Any person, or persons, who try to "hijack" it for their own purposes will be banned.

Message:   Today, June 6th. is the anniversary of D-day. On June 6, 1944 allied troops stormed the shores of Hitler's "Festung Europe" at Normandy in France. British and Canadian troops "hit the beach" at Gold & Juneau beaches. The U.S. 1ST & 29TH divisions came ashore at Omaha beach. Our own 4TH infantry division landed at Utah beach. They were followed up by thousands of other troops. In addition, British and American airborne troops landed behind the German beach defenses to secure vital objectives, and sow confusion among the enemy. The entire operation was supported by the largest naval armada in history.
.
American and French troops later landed on the south coast of France. They joined with the Normandy forces to close a united front across Western Europe. This operation confronted Hitler with his dreaded "Two front war," with the Russians advancing from the East, while the Western Allies advanced across Western Europe.
