Re: training a 4year old

Nope she's not too young.

First off make sure she is a willing to do anything you ask her on the ground. Ground manners are the start of a willing mount.

Do you plan on doing all the training by yourself? Either way sack her out with as much stuff as possible so when you or a trainer go to toss the saddle on she isn't scared of things flopping or banging around.

You can use anything and everything to do this. Just rub her all over with the saddle blanket, bags, etc.

Dianne,

Re: training a 4year old

I personally would not tie her just in case she decides to blow up when the cinch is tightened. Put her on a long line so that if she does go up you can get out of the way but still be able to hang on to her.

Re: training a 4year old

Dianne,
thanks for emailing me back. I will try a rope halter with a 12ft long lead rope, do you think that is long enough ? She had her first bath yesterday, a little hairy at first then she just relaxed and enjoyed the water hose. thank you so much !! Adele

Re: training a 4year old

Sounds good. I have only had one mule blow up and take off bucking when her saddle was tightend but she also had a lot of issues. Just go slow and if she trusts you it should go good.

Good Luck
