GB v Belarus - supplementary discipline
Defender Brent Pope will take no further part in Britain's games after receiving a 2-match ban for punching Sergei Erkovich of Belarus. Both players were sent off in the middle of the game after Erkovich, who has been suspended for one game, struck Britain's Jonathan Phillips with his stick. Hall of Famer Fredereick Meredith, the IIHF's tournament supervisor, told me that the Directorate had reviewed the video of the incident and were satisfied that the cross-check by Erkovich was in Phillips' chest and not his head. However, they took a dim view of Pope's action as he came across the ice some moments afterwards and sucker-punched the Belarussian. |
