GB teams latest

The IIHF decided on Friday 7 May that -
- World group 1A will be held in Budapest, Hungary in April 2005. GB's opponents will be Norway, Poland, China, Japan and the host nation.
- World under-20, Div 1, will be held in iceSheffield (dates in December to be advised). This is the group to which our u-20s were promoted in March.

Ice Hockey UK have withdrawn GB's application to compete in the (2006) Olympic qualifiers in November 2004 mostly, it is understood, on the grounds of cost.

Re: GB teams latest

According to the Official IIHF site, the World under-20 Division I tournament in Sheffield will run from 13 to 19 December 2004.

Let us hope that the powers-that-be do a better job of selling the tournament to the fans than they did when the Olympic qualifying tournament was held at the same venue eleven years ago!

As for Great Britain's non-participation in the Olympic Qualifying tournament (we are, incidentally the ONLY nation in either Pool A or Division I not either already qualified or attempting to qualify for Torino 2006), it was virtually inevitable given the messy state of British ice hockey at the moment.

While other countries give a high priority to international competition, providing time and funds for national team training and participation, we prefer to squander our meagre resources on internal squabbles. Too many people on ego trips and not enough with the interests of the sport at heart take their inevitable toll.

Only the fans and, more specifically, the Great Britain Supporters' Club, seem to care about Britain on the World stage.

Quite honestly, the BIHA did not and IHUK does not deserve the unflagging support that the GBSC has given the national team over the years.

All IMHO, of course!
