World Championships - GB-France 0-1
Excuse brevity but late game and only one goal. Quotes later. France outshot GB 37-19. A fine performance in goal by Welshman Stevie Lyle was not enough to save Britain from a 1-0 defeat by their hosts, France. Lyle, playing in his first championships since 2004, stopped over 30 shots before Francois Rozenthal beat him in the 46th minute. Coach Rick Strachan substituted Lyle with an extra attacker in the dying moments but Britain failed to find the equaliser. It was Britain’s second successive one-goal defeat in the six-nation group A. They meet favourites, Germany, tomorrow (Thursday). |
