Message:   Hi Sherwin,

It's a very common problem when folding work and slitting them on a folder. Have a few suggestions that may help.

1, check the sheet as it leaves the side lay and enters the rollers, make sure that it is leaving the lay squarely. IE: not pulling out of the lay or pulling into it. To correct this check the lay is square on the gauge and you have the appropriate marbles in the lay (Vacuum belt just check the suction) Light paper light Marbles or fewer marbles. Heavy stock, heavy Marbles.

2. Rollers: check they are clean and free of any ink build up. If not use appropriate roller wash and protective clothing and clean them. Then reset the roller pressures. NOT TO TIGHT AND NOT TO LOSSE.

3. Plates and deflectors: check the plates and deflector are in good condition and no bends or chips in the front lips. make sure they are replaced in the machine evenly. Also check the leaflet has enough room inside the plate to move up it freely and leave it freely. adjust the opening of the plate accordingly.
make sure the plate is square.

4. Slitter and collars. Check the slitter(s) are in good condition, not blunt or chipped. If so replace them, goes for the bottom collar(knife) not blunt or chipped.

5. Exit wheels. If you are using exit wheels check they are straight.

6. make sure the job is folding consistently before you start slitting, get it constant, then move your slitter back in.

hopefully it will slit better now.

If the slitting is consistent, drop the bottom deflector a bit. if it needs a bit more drop(lift) the deflector next to the 1 you just dropped. If you lift 1 deflector two much this could cause it vary a bit.

If the slitting is inconsistent this could be down to the pressures, check them again NOT TO TIGHT AND NOT TO LOOSSE.
Check no plates or deflectors have fell down..

if you still have no luck, check the grain direction.

or it could be a static problem.

hope the above help, best thing is to reset the folder and start again.
