Jazz Evening At Gonsalves Mansion

Around 150 jazz lovers were treated to great jazz music on Sunday, 27th June at Gonsalves Mansion, Campal, with Canada based jazz saxophonist Neal (Neelamjit) Singh Dhillon, Colin D'Cruz (bass guitar), George Fernandez (keyboards), Lester Godinho (drums) and Helen Louise Jones (vocals). The evening also featured musicians of repute like Dominic D'Souza, Carlos Monteiro, Armando Gonsalves (keyboards), Dennis Coelho (drums), Jimmy Firdaus, Nellie Pereira, James (vocals).

THE evening ended with Jazz Goa honouring Aduzinda Gonsalves on her 75th birthday. Definitely a great sunday for jazz lovers. Jazz Goa aims to create a platform for jazz lovers, both musicians and listeners. The club plans to have concerts with regularity and popularise jazz in Goa and make the state the country's jazz capital. It is the support of Goa's own jazz trio, George Fernandez, Colin D'Cruz and Lester Godinho besides Carlos Monteiro which inspired Armando Gonsalves, Valerio Sequeira and Jamini Mehta to form Jazz Goa which plans to open up a membership drive for jazz lovers. Re: Jazz Evening At Gonsalves Mansion

I attended the show by Jazz Goa on Saturday and saying that I enjoyed myself absolutely, is putting it mildly. My parents are jazz fans and so, needless to say, this genre of music is not something new to me. Live jazz in Goa is something that I had not expected to experience. The musicians who performed were exceptionally good and really got their audience tapping feet to their rhythm. Another nice thing was that other people, who weren’t professional musicians, could jam with them. There was also the small impromptu performance by Jason and Sylvia, the dance duo, who got the excitement level a notch higher than it was already.

I think it’s excellent that Jazz Goa is encouraging people to appreciate this form of music as well as providing those who would like to, an opportunity to jam with other jazz musicians. It is exposure to good jazz that will encourage potential artistes, particularly the young, to play or sing jazz and maybe go professional one day. So I feel that right now Jazz Goa deserves all the encouragement we can give it.

Great show.....never expected something of this calibre in Goa.

I think Non Resident Indians, being that much more in a capacity to support, should support this cause to the fullest. What I heard at the show was something spectacular.

Keep it up guys,
