X-massy jazz
Have a holly jolly christmas with the city's jazz musicians! For most of us 'Die Hard' shown on cable every December, and Vaughn Monroe askimg to 'Let it Snow' as the credits roll up, is as close as it gets to an X'mas tradition. But residents of one particular Bandra street do it the correct way. For the past six years, they've been celebrating Christmas the age-old way-with carols, sung by the best talent in town. The city's top jazz musicians will get together once again today on St. Anthony's road (also known as Lover's Lane by college kids who find itsb secluded setting ideal for extra-curricular activities) to put on the free street jazz concert. The line-up for the show comprises of Keyboardist Loy Mendonca od Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy fame and Merlin D'Souza, the city's oldest performing jazz musician Jazzy Joe, vocalists Suzanne de Mello, Megan Perry from Australia and Patrick Rydman from Sweden and renowned bassist Colin D'Cruz, amongst others. Also performing are veteran groups who've been playing internationally and locally, such as Conchord, The Bassman's Band, Soul Yatra and The Newman's choir. What started off as a small street celebration has over the years, taken the form of a larger, merrier show, which is set to feature not only on television this year but also on the internet.
