Swimming

It is 94 degrees right now in Sevier County.I remember back home in the 1960s we would dam up the bridge at Brittains Creek. There would be coal sludge in the bottom and no one would want to touch bottom, even with their feet.It would last the most of the day but someone with authority would have the boys break it away before night fall. The boys and men would dam up swimming places at Kenvir or Dizney but I seem to remember the water would be low still. There was always a walk or bycycle ride to Evarts to swim near the trussel.I don't remember it ever being dammed up and was deep anyway.Sometimes ,not often it was deep enough for someone to jump off the trussel into the water which was rare and a bit scary.Jones Creek always had a nice swimming place. It was deep thanks to nature. There was a pleasant walk across a field.I cannot remember exactly how to get to that swimming place but it sure was popular with people who were courting back in the day !
