2009 in Creedmoor, NC a hound called Parker's Bear scored 690 on the first day. Bear was out of Lakehill's Holyfield.
Hoehner's Bold Ruler scored 1770 over 3 days, which was 5 more points than Bear scored.
That is the highest I know of but it could have been broken.
Heath, That trial is probably the best I ever attended, edging out an All-American at Huxley Bay, TX. in the late 70's.
There were a number of high profile hounds at that Masters hunt and they certainly delivered. My memory gets less reliable every day, but I believe there were at least three or four hounds who scored close to what the CH accumulated.
I had a hound with 960 points, which will get you in or close to the right neighborhood at a lot of hunts. He was 93rd.
One aspect that accounted for those superlative scores,I've always believed -- forgive me if I bleed red and white for a few sentences -- was the field of judges at that trial. They were excellent, including a half-dozen or so Canucks, most of whom could really get over the ground.
Pens like Tar River and Creedmoor in those days and Mallens up here, along with a lot of others, I'm sure, always seem to have steady running for the whole trial almost every time one is held.
The field of judges, along with where in the pen hounds run, determines how much scoring you get under those circumstances. It's something we sometimes overlook -- that a higher score at one trial may have been the result of superior judging, not necessarily a superior hound.
I can not remember exactly but in ellinore missouri at masters they're were some over 600 1st or 2nd day and I think lablanc*s chocolate score over 700 at a master's on day 3?
Billy - they talking bout the masters, none of the hounds scored over 600 when we took masters to sand sifters , that was the year John won it with Slinger.
Barney's Bud scored over 1900 Grand Total but his S&D was about 1530 or so for the three days. I don't think he had a 700 point day but he may have.
The Chocolate dog Lenny mentioned would probably be the only one with more points than Parker's Bear but I never saw any info on that 2005 hunt at Big Valley so I can't say for sure.
700 is about tops for the Masters and with an average entry of 300 hounds over the last 8 or 10 years I doubt you will see more than 700.
The way the 10 minute intervals work, it gets harder and harder to keep more points the closer you get to the daily maximum.
Take a hound with 700 points and randomly scatter 10 more crossings on his score sheet. Most of them are going to fall into an already filled bracket so he might not keep 50 more points out of 10 additional crossings.
