Advice on service for rubbing discs

Hi Guys,

Can I have your thoughts please...

I've just booked my bike in for a service at 'BIKE' in Bristol and explained that the disc brakes have always rubbed after breaking hard. The mechanic said that this is normal Is this really the case ?

(I got Magura Julie brakes, on a Marin Alpine Trail BTW.)If anyone else knows how to sort this problem please let me know.

Cheers,

Dean.

Re: Advice on service for rubbing discs

this can happen for a number of reasons, if your pads are set too close to the rotor and also after hard persistant breaking due to the fackt that this generates a lot of heat some times causing the rotor to warp temparrarly if your doing losts of long and hard breaking this is going to be very hard to avoid although you might try growing a pair and not breaking as much lol te he he he...!

Re: Re: Advice on service for rubbing discs

Yea that shop told me the same after I test rode one of their bikes that wasn't set up properly, a load of rubbish. Losen the mounting bolts holdind the caliper and then hold the brake lever in, this will center the disc. Then whilst holding the lever in tighten the bolts back up and it should not rub. If the rubbing noise is constant this will solve the problem. If the noise is intermitant, check that the disc is not warped and that the wheel is set in correctly. Good look

this method only works with hayes breaks and not hope or the such like!!! you may also whant to make sure that the break mounts have been faced off if is a new machine.....!
