Welcoming novices?

Hi all

I'm hoping to get back into biking a bit more seriously and I would love to join a club to help foster my enthusiasm and meet some like-minded people. I live in Clevedon, so BMBC would be great for me, but would I be great for you? It seems you're all very serious bikers (with very serious bikes!) - is there some kind of level you need to reach in order to join up?

Furthermore (I guess you know what's coming), I am about to buy the machine to start me on my journey (my 10-year old Diamond Back won't cut it) - max budget £400. Looking at Specialized Hardrock (disc), Trek 4300 (disc) and GT Avalanche 1.0 (v-brakes). Any thoughts? Am I missing a glaring gem from my research?

Looking forward to hearing from you/ meeting you.

Cheers
Rob

Re: Welcoming novices?

First off.. Welcome to the Club :-)

As for rider seriousness members, associates etc. vary in all abilities from total slugs to racing snakes. So whatever your ability, just pitch up on an evening ride or weekend away ride and take it from there. Nobody usually gets left behind.

As for the bike I would get the spesh :-)

Regards,

PS Here is a typical BMBC ride photo ;-)

Re: Welcoming novices?

Ahem at risk of promoting the 'competition' check out the Gordano club site (www.gvmtb.co.uk) as they're even more local to you.

Bikestyle in Clevedon (www.bike-style.co.uk) would be a good place to check out some bikes and they've started doing pretty chilled Wednesday evening rides.

All the local clubs have wide ranges of abilities so I wouldn't worry as everybody is very welcoming.

Cheers,

Be gone from here ;-) Interlopers from Gordano.

Re: Re: Re: Welcoming novices?

Hi

Thanks for your feedback. Ordered the Specialized Hardrock - despite my reservations about the looks (yes, I am a mild tart) it clearly receives more recommendations. Regarding clubs, the Gordano one gives me an interesting quandary. Thanks for all your feedback, people.

Cheers
Rob

Re: Welcoming novices?

Just do what I do and ride with loads of different groups!

Bristol Club has more regular rides but Gordano is more convenient.

Mike P I saw you sneaking onto the Gordano site!
