Bringing kitten into home with a 12 year old cat already established

Do you have any tips or advice for the best way to avoid trouble when introducing a female kitten into the home where a 12 year old neutered male cat has lived all his life? Also, he is not a very social cat at all and I am afraid this will totally upset his applecart. Any help would be appreciated.
