what are people using for the flies and mosquitos..they are terrible this year..i just started having a problem

I keep Purple Python cattle tags on their collars, and change them out about every two and one half months and they keep ticks and most other insects away, also I have a plum tree next to one of my dog pens and since I have been keeping these cattle tags on my dogs the insect that plants the worms into the plums have stayed away also.
