Best Mouth hound ever heard

Thought this might get a few people talking. What hound had the best mouth you ever heard? One that just not the owner would know but many other people could pick after hearing it one time.

Two hounds come to mind for me. One is Thistlehill Whistler has one of the oddest mouths ever. Don't even really know how to exsplain it.
The other is Alumbaughs Pie has one of the most terrible cry's to it.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

A gyp that i call Sally she has the best clear mouth i've ever herd!! She uses it every breath as well!! I could sit an listen to her run right by herself all night long! God Bless!!!

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

I would have to say my old hound. Mc Millians Loot. He has a high tenor mouth that doubles up on. It sounds like music to my ears.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Would have to be my brother's ol Teardrop Radier B. hound. He had a big coondog mouth and gave plenty of it. Most of all what you like about him know one could clame ol Teardrop.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Well this is my favorite subject when it comes to our sport. I TRULY LOVE a hound with a good mouth, and won't keep one very long that doesn't have one no matter how good he or she is. In 1998 I won the Texas State with a hound named Doc Holiday and he won best mouth also. He had a loud tearing coarse squall then went onto a hard loud driving coarse chop then pretty often he just had to squall again. He loved to run a coyote and it didn't matter how long the race got, he just got stronger and the later in the night it got to be the more your heard from him. He was truly a joy to run. i never hunted with anyone who didn't know him every time he opened and I have ran him in several field trials with two to three hundred hounds and he still was known by everyone around the whole time. He truly had a million dollar mouth and was without a doubt the best hound I have ever owned and probably the best I will ever own. I still have some of his stock and still breed for mouths and have a pack of good mouthed hounds right now.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Well I have listened to a lot of hounds that had good mouths in my life, but the one that sticks out is a gyp that was owned by Heath Davis. We hunted on the outside during those days and we ran a lot of fox and coyotes. One particular hunt that I remember was on the outside on Iron Bridge Hunting Club.We had cast somewhere atound 100 or so hounds. My partner and I were judging and heard a big pack coming and got ready to score them when my partner asked me could I hear that good tenor mouth?I asked him who couldn!t,that is Heath Davis!Ole gyp Honey Bunch!!!PS by the way she also won the hunt.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

I would have to say it would be Davis Snake. He had a mouth that sounded like a mad bull. He was the first one heard coming and the last you would hear going a way. He had outstanding speed and would run all night. The second best mouth was Daylite Floyd high tenor pulling mouth.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Clear Cut Honeybunch and Flying S Lil Freedom the two best mouth. And they wereboth great gyps on top of that.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Gunstock Speedbuggy

We also had a gyp called Grapevine that daddy almost named Viagra because of the effect her voice had on him.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Hurricane Audrey has the best mouth I ever heard.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Cluff's white lightning and a hound called dan that a friend of mine owns has the best mouths i ever heard both have big roaring mouths and both hounds can really drive a piece of game. together they could drowned out a pack of hounds.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Gunstock Billy, owned by Stewart Baxley. I think Jammy Sauls has him now. If you ever hear this hound run you did not forget him. I had him for a while and got a lot of enjoyment hearing him run. You could pick him out of any pack of hounds, no matter how many. Won best mouth at IRHC. one year.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Almand's Cupcake was a littermate to Almand's Woodstock. She had a beautiful Clear mouth that she pulled a lot and anyone that heard her never forgot her. Also Almand's Flying Dot by Canoy's Ringo had that clear Tenor mouth that she pulled on pickup.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Great subject the only problem is I can think of several and it would be difficult for me to narrow it down to just one.

I see where Big Kyle mentioned my ole Teardrop Raider hound, and I agree I love to hear the hound run a yote or fox, and no doubt I wish I had his mouth back in my pack, but then there is:

2) Kyle's Mo Jo Dixie B. gyp, she a mouth anybody could tell and give plenty of it and in the right place, she help any race I ever heard.

3) Then there is Uncle Earl's ole Guinea hound he had he called TACO, now that hound had a one in a million type mouth, it was clear pulling type mouth that would make you stand up and listen, never, heard a hound that sounded like him before or since.

4) Then there is Don Willis's two fine hounds called Duncan Creek Abraham, and Duncan Creek Cody, these two hounds both sound a whole lot a like, they both had outstanding clear mouths and barked everytime their foot hit the ground and maybe a time or two in between. These were by far the best pair of male hounds I ever heard run a red fox, they could get with the ball game and just drive something in the ground barking with those good clear mouths that ever good fox hunter wants to own.

I realize I am blessed above measure to be able to say that I have heard a lot of good hounds run in my life time and several of them had really good mouths. I have a few hounds now that sound pretty good but probably none of them sound as good as the above mentioned hounds, how i would love to hear the above mentioned hounds run a good race one more time.

Memories, ahaaaaaaa hhh memories, that is what I am full of right now memories.

Thank you Lord for such good memories,

Top five females. I have heard run ch. Clear Cut Honeybunch,Flying s Little Freedom, Valentine's Little Chick, Bate's Buttons, Cobb's Poco. Top five Males Gunstock Billy,Cobb's One Eyed Willie,Cobb's Black Majic, ch.Clear Cut Bingo,Chases Speck. I run with everone of these hounds. I know 8 of them have won several hunts also. I've been lucky and owned two of them. Honeybunch was the best hound I've ever owned. She was a great gyp.Donnie Cobb always had some of the best mouth hounds a man wanted to hear run.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Ray's Rita C. could not be covered up or heard anywher but on the front end of a race.

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

Gunstock Billy and his brother Ch. Floyd's billy bob Both had extremely good mouths the night that stands out in my mind was one morning some of us were running at the holt fox pen not far from the front of the pen was a train track and the dogs were running up in a corner where on certain nights they were hard to hear well not that night the dogs were running between us and the train track and was blowing its horn every so often which usually would of drowned out the race but we could hear the two Billy's running like they were suppose to over the train they had outstanding mouths

Re: Best Mouth hound ever heard

I agree with you, Jason. Ch Floyd's Billy Bob was such a pleasure to listen to. Probably the best mouth I ever heard. Jack brought him up here to an 8 hour night hunt one time. It was quiet and still that night. Billy Bob was jarring the ground. I think I remember him winning that hunt. What a hound! I have enjoyed this thread.
