Hi Dave,
I’ve a Loar LM-110 Honey Creek mandolin and I’m regularly breaking E strings. To me the hooks on the tailpiece seem to be sharp and a bit vicious and as the strings seem to break around the tailpiece/bridge I thought I’d change tailpiece to posts rather than hooks. Does this make sense? If so could you please advise which post tailpiece I should choose.

Searching for vintage mandolin replacement bridge on google

Hi,
I\'m looking for a replacement bridge for a vintage mandolin. The Stridente 4-10mm bridge height and 120mm length, second of the four pictures look a perfect replacement. From my measurements 6.75mm height, 5,5mm width and 120mm long. the remaining two teeth separating the strings are approx. 3.24mm, depth of cut 3.75mm. Distance of whole left with missing tooth 4.84, tooth 3.41mm all approximate.

Replacement bridge for a Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy bowlback mandolin

Kia ora Dave,

I am writing from New Zealand to ask whether you might be able to make a replacement bridge for an old Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (Paris) bowlback mandolin that I am hoping to restore to playing condition.

I play a flatback mandolin, and was contacted by a local nursing home and asked if I could play some music for one of their residents Caroline on her fathers mandolin. I am happy to do this, however the instrument is currently not playable.

The original bridge is unfortunately broken, but I still have it, so its dimensions and profile can be measured.

The bridge is a particularly low, simple one-piece bridge, and the soundboard beneath it is essentially flat. I would like to replace the broken bridge with something reasonably faithful to the original rather than fitting a modern adjustable mandolin bridge.

I have taken several photographs of the mandolin, the original broken bridge, and its position on the soundboard. I can send these if helpful.

Would this be something you could make for me? If so, could you let me know what measurements specific photos you would need, the approximate cost, and whether you are able to post/courier a bridge to New Zealand? Many thanks for your help.

Anyway, since you live in France and should be familiar with the purchasing power of the euro, I wanted to ask how much you would charge (or say one can reasonably pay someone else to do!) when a mando needs a fretboard shim and refret due to wear and neck bow :) Nothing seems loose at the joint, so I think it’s age and previous owners using heavy strings. But I don’t feel like trusting some guitar shop with this…

Hey Dave, I just sent you an e-mail with photos, if I still have the correct address from you. I was asking whether mandolin fretboards being imperfectly centered towards either the bass or treble side is a quality control issue that would affect playing or setting up when shopping for an early 1900s instrument, or of it’s within tolerances for old bowlbacks. I am looking at about 2mm more space between the fretboard and binding or purfling on the side of the G course than that of the E course, so it’s not the bridge placement.
