I was the S2 and S3 clerk for the 27th Engineer Battalion HQ Company in 67-68. I worked as the S3 clerk and also took over the job of Photographer for S2 intelligence. I took pictures everyday including of Hue in 1968 right after TET and also the air field built by the 591st (Operation Massachusetts) that the 101st used to go into the A Shua Valley. I was part of the 27th from Oct 67 until Oct 68. |

Hi! I just happened to be doing an ancestry search when this popped up with my dad’s name in it (James Cimaglia) I loved seeing him in a couple of the photos. He passed away July 5th, 2018 and I wish I had talked to him more about Vietnam, breaks my heart everyday. I love looking at all of his photos that he has, I’d love to share. If anyone knew him or of him and would like to email me, please do! & thank you all so much - you are all so brave and tough. My email is MeaghanCim725@gmail.com Thank you |

Served at the 591st - Phu Bai and Camp Eagle. Also had temp assignments along the road we were building toward several fire bases into A Shaw Valley. Performed a number of different jobs during the year from cook to company clerk to demolition to listening post.Getting older sure brings on the memories, except for names, I remember no names but would remember faces. |

I was in the 591st for all of 1971, in fact I was one of the last 7 people to leave the compound, right befor New Year Day. It was nice to see the pictures of the old compound. |

The first thing I remember about the 591st Engineer Company (LE) in August 1966, was that I reported to the Company Enlisted Orderly on Fort Campbell at about 0230 hours. The orderly gave me bedding, showed me where to bed down, and then told me the Company would be deploying to Vietnam before Christmas. As many of us can remember, it was not until August of 1967 that we deployed. I have very good memories of serving with the men of the 591st Engineer Company (LE) from August 1966 through mid May 1968. I went to college and graduated in 1972. After college, I joined the U.S. Army Reserves while doing some post-graduate studies in Grand Rapids, MI. I remained in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1994 and retired when I turned 60. The Army was always good to me and I enjoyed being an enlisted soldier. A memory that comes back to me time and time again is when our unit was marching in a community parade as part of the Michigan tulip festival. As I was marching, I glanced to the crowd lining the street, and saw older men (Korean & WWII Vets) standing and placing their hand over their hearts. I understood their emotions and the honor they had for the service they performed. I have never forgotten what you and others did in Vietnam and what our soldiers are doing today and will do in the future. Thank you allowing me to serve with you. I am grateful and proud to have been with you and served our country with you. |
